Designing and selling jewelry was a new endeavor for me in 2012. I was a little over a year into early retirement from corporate life, when the impulse to create jewelry came upon me quite suddenly. I bought my first materials at the end of June and began making my signature Count Your Blessings and What Would Love Do? bracelets. Turns out I am well-suited for the painstaking detail work that jewelry-making and beading entail!
I quickly branched out to a variety of eclectic necklace designs. Many of them are Big and Bold!! I love creating nature tableaus, love flowers, leaves, filigree. I do a lot of designs with semi-precious gemstones, tending toward muted palettes, though I love color, too. Another favorite category are pearls and crystals, and I often combine them in multi-strand designs. Another design element I’m very attracted to are artisan lampwork glass beads, along with porcelain (ceramic), and pressed or fire-polished glass (Czech glass). I also love to dabble with my bib statement necklaces, chandelier necklaces, lariats, and other chain designs.
I am a one-woman shop: I do everything for my jewelry business, including design and produce jewelry products; design and print packaging and collateral materials; design and maintain all online presences (website, two Etsy shops, Facebook page); package and ship orders; photograph and process photos; create and manage Etsy listings; post new listings to Facebook; organize inventory; purchase supplies and materials; handle Etsy correspondence and custom requests, etc.
How Heart of One Creations Came About
As many expressive people feel, it seems I must create things I find pleasing in order to be fulfilled. My inspiration for Heart of One Creations was borne of many coalescing elements from my distant and near past. The name comes from the title of a poem I wrote in 1988, which ends with:
beats the heart of One
rain or stone
all or none.”
The ideas for my first two bracelet series, Count Your Blessings and What Would Love Do? , came from my desire to be more mindful each day about what’s going on inside my head and heart…and what is coming out of my mouth!
My original logo—a circle spiraling into a heart into a spiral—came to me upon awakening one morning (as most of my creative inspiration downloads do) and symbolizes for me our spiritual journey…back to the Heart of One. It seemed my poem had come full circle (yes, pun intended!).
I hope my designs serve to remind us of the crucial values of love, care, kindness, mindfulness, and gratitude that are so needed to be expressed in the world today, as well as to showcase the diverse natural elements and colorful materials we are blessed with on this beautiful garden planet!
